Writer's Guidelines for freelance submissions

The Scouting-E-Zine accepts free-lance submissions.

We are interested in Scouting history, personalities, interesting places to camp & visit, and stories which demonstrate quality of life in Scouting. We publish only stories with a Scouting or Youth Group tie. All stories should have strong human interest.

We are also interested in trend stories which cover a topical story in a journalistic, well-balanced approach including interviews with the key Scouts or Scouters involved. Topics for trend stories include Camping, Summer Camps, Camporees, Jamborees, technology in Scouting, the environment, etc. Trend stories should be timely and related to current Scouting events or happenings.

Scouting-E-Zine does not, as a general rule, publish poetry or fiction, nor do we have space for monthly columns from free-lance writers. We also rarely publish reminiscence stories.

An important consideration in submitting a story to Scouting-E-Zine is being familiar with the publication. Writers should familiarize themselves with the kinds of stories we run and the publication's style and format. Feel free to check out our archives.

General Guidelines

Scouting-E-Zine encourages interesting stories which can be illustrated with photographs or artwork. All submissions will be considered.

We are particularly interested in young Scouts with well-developed ideas for illustrating their stories or who are able to shoot pictures themselves and submit them in a digital format.

Scouting-E-Zine publishes relatively short stories. The maximum length of a feature story is 1,000 words. We look for articles which exhibit clear, concise writing. We may edit long stories to fit the publication.

All story submissions should be e-mailed to the editor:

Please put "E-Zine Article Submission." in the subject line and attach any photos. Submissions are considered on speculation with no obligation to purchase.

Scouting-E-Zine does not pay for submitted articles, but we do give "by line" credit to any articles used. The editors of Scouting-E-Zine will be the final judges of whether art submitted with a story is usable or not. Scouting-E-Zine editors reserve the right to edit stories which have been accepted for publication
